Help

Practical help with every step of making a book. If you're stuck, email us and we'll sort it out together.

Starting your book

After you order, we email you a link to start. You'll enter the person's full name, the name they like to be called, your relationship to them and a colour for the book. Then work through the chapters in any order. Everything saves as you go, so you can stop and come back.

You don't need to fill every chapter. A book with a dozen good photos and short captions is better than one stretched thin.

Inviting relatives

Use the "Invite family" button to copy your invite link, or share it straight to WhatsApp or a text. Anyone with the link can add photos and memories, so share it with family and close friends only. You can turn a link off at any time and make a new one.

Relatives don't need an account. You'll see who added what, and you can hide anything you'd rather not include.

Photos

  • Phone photos are fine. For old prints, photograph them flat, near a window, without flash, and fill the frame.
  • We'll warn you if a photo is too small to print sharply.
  • Tap a face to tell us where the important part of the photo is, so it isn't cropped off.
  • Only add photos of other living people if they're happy for them to be shared.

Writing captions

Short and in the first person works best: "I worked at Rowntree's for 30 years." One or two sentences per page is plenty, and there's a character counter to help. Use the names they would use: "Jim", not "my husband James". If they can join in, use their own words. Our guide to life story questions has prompts if you're stuck.

Your proof

When you ask for a proof, we email you a link to a PDF of every page. Check names, dates, spellings and photos, then choose "Approve for printing" or "Ask for changes". Nothing is printed until you approve, and you can cancel for a full refund until then.

Delivery and reprints

Books usually arrive within 5 to 7 working days of approval, and we email you when yours is posted. If it arrives damaged or with a printing fault, email us with a photo and we'll reprint it free.

Signing in

There's no password. Enter your email on the sign-in page and we'll send you a link that works for 30 minutes. If it doesn't arrive within a few minutes, check your spam or junk folder.

Support with dementia

We can't give care or medical advice, but these organisations can: Dementia UK's Admiral Nurse Dementia Helpline (free on 0800 888 6678), Alzheimer's Society, Age UK and the NHS.
